- - - - T M A C Help Menu - - - -
This program can be used to create ReadMAC graphic equivalents
of old-style, ASCII-type 'printer art'.
Further, T M A C provides you with various 'tuning' options--
normal and squeezed representations of the pictures, as well
as contrast control. (T M A C contains a subset of the more
extensive Printer Art viewing options of the REPP310 package.)
Also, once a picture has been converted to a ReadMAC, it can be
shown immediately, as TMAC can display ReadMAC images directly.
Note: To bring up a ReadMAC for viewing, just enter the
file name in the F4 area and request the file. Once you are
in the ReadMAC viewer, F8 brings up the YAMP ReadMAC viewer
help screen. Press any key to continue ...

Some initial notes:
1. Printer art which uses overprinting IS NOW SUPPORTED.
2. Upon entry, T M A C logs on to the CURRENT directory,
or to the directory specified in the command line
/IDIR= parameter. You can set the directory & drive
again, even giving an ambiguous file specification to
limit the display, if you wish, once in this menu screen.
3. If you are working with a composite-video CGA monitor
(i.e., monochrome), much of this screen may be difficult
to read. Use the /BWMON command-line parameter at the
time you invoke REPP310 to make all menus black-on-white.
Press any key to continue ...

F1, F2, F3 and F4 place the cursor into the associated keying
area. To leave an entry unchanged, press RETURN or another F-
key whenever the cursor is at the LEFT EDGE of the keying area.
For Directory entries: you DO NOT lead off with the
CHDIR or CD command; just enter the directory name. Also, to
list any files, a specification (such as *.*) must follow the
directory. Examples: \art\*.pic c:\img\*.img a:\*.*
To execute an F2, F3 or F4 option, press F2, F3 or F4,
enter the file name, and press RETURN or the same F-key again.
If the correct file name is already in the option area, you
could just press the appropriate F-key TWICE.
F6 & F7 simply rotate between the available values.
F9 & F10 quit to DOS from here but quit to MENU during drawing.
or conversion. F10 also resets options to defaults if invoked
during processing. Press any key to continue ...

The files saved and retrieved by the F3 and F4 keys are in
ReadMAC format. ReadMACs are images originally created by the
Apple Macintosh(TM) computer. The built-in YAMP viewer has
options to minimize the effect of the different aspect ratio
of the Macintosh images as they are shown on a CGA monitor.
Note that if no extension is provided, '.MAC' is used. Files
with the names of NONE.MAC cannot be saved or retrieved.
The drawing function F2 will not normally be able to show all of
a picture. Here it is used simply to help you judge the effect
of the Sizing and Contrast options. After conversion to a
ReadMAC, the full image will usually be available for viewing.
After the drawing of a picture is completed, the F9/F10
EXIT-TO-DOS will be reactivated, and any other
key returns to the menu. Press any key to continue ...

An Example: On the distribution disk is a file called
SHIP.PIC. The following will create an image of this craft:
Press F2 and key 'SHIP'. (The .PIC suffix is assumed.)
Press F6 to select 'squeezed' mode.
Press F7 enough times to bring up CRISPY.
Press F3 and key 'SHIP'. (The .MAC suffix is assumed.)
Now press ENTER. (The .MAC extension is assumed.) The file
will be analyzed, and you will be given a chance to change the
Sizing or Contrast settings. Press ENTER to begin the
conversion of the SHIP.PIC file to a SHIP.MAC file.
After the conversion is complete and the menu is again showing,
press F4 and type 'SHIP' and press ENTER. The converted image
file will be recalled for viewing. While in the YAMP ReadMAC
viewer, pressing F8 will bring up another Help Screen.
